Our Eye Exam Process
Medical History
As eye doctors, we can attest that eyes really are the window to the body. Eyes can be affected by many, many systemic conditions like diabetes, hypertension, heart disease, autoimmune conditions, neurological problems, and genetic disorders, among many others. Additionally, many medications, even over the counter preparations, can affect the eyes as well. As your eye doctors, it is helpful to know about your general health and medications, including non-prescription medications, prior to any exam or treatment. Well will reach out to collect your health information before your exam or you can fill out our new patient paperwork below.
Pretesting Stage
Prior to the doctor evaluation, some testing will be completed by a trained staff member. These tests included getting a baseline for your prescription, assessing the curvature of the eye (an important tests for fitting contact lenses), as well as checking your eye pressure using new, patient friendly technology. Nobody likes the puff of air, including us!
We will also perform a iWellness Retinal Scan at NO CHARGE. This technology can easily detect the earliest signs of Diabetic Eye Disease, Macular Degeneration, and Glaucoma BEFORE vision loss occurs.
Additionally, we offer and dropless alternative to dilation utilitize wide-field imaging of the inside of the eye (the retina). This is an additional fee but many patients prefer the convenience.
Refraction/Glasses Prescription
At Precision Family Eye Care we use both automated as well as patient directed methods are used to obtain the best glasses prescription for you. We are also able to use this data to help with contact lens fitting and evaluation.
Ocular Health Assessment
Without question, this is the most important part of any eye exam. In this part of the exam, the doctor will use microscopes to assess the health of both the inside and outside of the eye to detect any early ocular disease that requires treatment or further testing. This is done in conjunction with retinal imaging to ensure a proper eye health exam.
Consultation and Communication
All patients, parents, or guardians will be provided with a thorough explanation of the eye exam findings, their significance, any additional testing that is necessary, as well as treatment options. Your questions will be answered and the solutions to any difficulties will be reviewed. We recommend and encourage patients to ask many questions during this stage of the visit. If you forget a question, please call us, our goal is to educate you about your eyes and we will be happy to speak with you and answer your questions.
